Crew Cab vs. Super Crew Cab Trucks

One of the big strengths of Ford trucks is the wide range of configurations available. Lots of different powertrains and equipment options to help you set your truck up for what you need. There are a number of cab options too, and here is where things get a little complicated. When choosing from the different bed options, you simply choose a length, but cab options use a series of names that can be a little confusing. Even if you know that a Crew Cab is bigger than a Super Cab, it’s still important to know just how much of a difference it makes. So we put together this guide to help you work out just which cab configuration is best for you. We’re leaving all of the Regular Cab options off the comparisons, just because the different configurations only impact the back seat space, and Regular configurations don’t have a back seat.

Ford Super Duty Cabs

The Super Duty is Ford’s big truck, a step beyond heavy-duty, the Super Duty is extremely popular among people who have to do a lot of serious towing. And since it’s built for long towing trips on the highway, the Super Duty has a spacious and comfortable front row of seats no matter which configuration you go with. For a Super Duty with a back seat, you have two different options, the Super Cab and the Crew Cab. The Super Duty is the only Ford truck to offer the Crew Cab, which might sound like it means that this is the only really spacious cab in the lineup, but it really just means that the Super Duty uses a different name for the bigger cab. There are a few different versions of the Super Duty, F-250, F-350, etc, but the cab options are all the same, which makes it a lot easier to keep all of this straight.

Ford F-150 Cabs

Not just a wildly popular Ford truck, the F-150 is one of the most popular pickup trucks of all time. The F-150 is the leader in the pickup segment thanks to its advanced technology, incredible capability, and comfortable interior. It offers an available segment-exclusive hybrid drivetrain, and a ton of tech to make the F-150 an indispensable tool at the worksite. There are two different cab options that offer a back seat, the Super Cab and the SuperCrew®. The dimensions of the Super Cab are very similar to those of the Super Duty, and the SuperCrew® dimensions are also very similar to the Crew Cab on the Super Duty, despite the different name.

Ford F-150 Lightning

The F-150 Lightning is at once both an incredible feat of innovation and technology, and at the same time, an F-150 as you’ve always known the F-150 to be. When building an all-electric pickup, Ford decided not to go with a whole new design. The F-150 was already a massively popular truck in conventional form, and there was simply no reason to mess with success. So the F-150 Lightning is going to feel familiar to anyone who already knows the F-150. In fact, the interior dimensions of the cab are identical. That said, there is only one cab configuration available, the SuperCrew®. But this is a very popular configuration, so this shouldn’t be a problem for most buyers.

Ford Ranger

The Ranger is another of Ford’s longtime big success stories, fantastic capability in a size that a lot of people will find much more practical than the larger pickups in the lineup. Built on the same platform as the hugely popular Bronco, the Ranger also comes with some seriously impressive offroading ability, and there is even a Raptor variant available, for going really fast offroad. The Ranger is available only with the SuperCrew® cab. It’s not quite as big for the Ranger as it is for the F-150, but It actually offers slightly more front headroom, and the size difference in areas like front leg room is so small that you won’t be able to tell the difference. That’s pretty impressive for a truck that will actually fit in a garage, but it’s just one more example of how the Ranger offers the best of both worlds.

Ford Maverick

The Maverick debuted at the forefront of a new trend in smaller, more practical pickups that are easier to live with in day-to-day life. Available with an optional hybrid drivetrain or in either front- or all-wheel drive, the Maverick offers the kind of versatility that you have come to expect from Ford trucks. The interior is spacious, and with only one configuration available, Ford hasn’t given it a name. The Maverick is shorter than the Ranger, but the difference in length is seen mostly in the bed, and the interior measurements are very similar, with each truck having different areas where they offer more room.
