2024 Ford F-250 Super Duty vs. the Competition

2024 F-250 VS The Competition | Sarchione Ford of Alliance

It’s only natural that a search for the best heavy-duty truck on the market would lead you to the Ford F-series, the best-selling family of trucks in America for the last 47 years. But it’s not the only option out there, and it’s also only natural to wonder how the competition measures up. The following guide breaks down just why the F-250 isn’t just heavy duty, it’s Super Duty.

Ford F-250 VS The Competition - By The Numbers

Ford F-250 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Ram 2500 Nissan Titan XD
Ford F-250 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Ram 2500 Nissan Titan XD
Starting MSRP* $44,970 $43,400 $45,250 $46,040
Max Available Horsepower 500 470 410 400
Max Available Torque 1,200 lb-ft 975 lb-ft 850 lb-ft 413 lb-ft
Max Towing 23,000 pounds 22,500 pounds 19,990 pounds 11,050 pounds
Max Payload 4,268 pounds 3,975 pounds 4,000 pounds 2,360 pounds

A couple of things about the chart that we should make clear before continuing. The Nissan Titan XD has the price it does because it comes with a standard crew cab, which the rest don’t. Pricing on all of these trucks is still quite similar though. The other thing is that max horsepower and max torque come from the engine option on all of these trucks except for the Ram. For the 2500, the highest horsepower rating comes from the gasoline engine, and the highest torque rating comes from the diesel. So it doesn’t just offer less power, you’re also forced to choose which of the unimpressive power numbers is more important to you.

The main takeaway from this is that the F-250 comes out on top in every one of the categories that makes a truck heavy-duty. Even the trucks that come close on towing and payload capacity will still struggle more to haul the same weight, thanks to their power deficit. There is also the issue of how this power is utilized. The F-250 comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission, and to be fair, so does the Silverado 2500 HD. But the Titan XD has a 9-speed transmission, and the Ram 2500 has only 8 speeds. When towing heavy loads, those additional gear will absolutely make a difference.
