Diesel Engine-Exhaust Braking
Providing enhanced control, the 6.7L Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel engine features a driver-engaged engine-exhaust brake to help slow the immense power of the Super Duty when trailering. Especially when traveling downhill, the engine brake reduces the need to apply brake pedal pressure while simultaneously reducing brake fade and brake line wear. The system includes three dedicated settings: On, Off, and Auto. Selecting Auto mode means that engine braking with be modulated as necessary to help maintain a preset speed based on your use of the accelerator and brake pedal.
Operator-Commanded Regeneration With Active Inhibit
Diesels in particular can sometimes struggle to generate enough heat for the engine to automatically burn off soot found in the diesel particulate filter, especially in situations involving long idling. Fortunately, the available Operator-Commanded Regeneration with Active Inhibit provides the perfect solution to this dilemma. At the touch of a button, the driver can raise the exhaust temperature to burn off excess soot in an effort to revert the exhaust temperature to normal levels. There’s even an active inhibit feature that can delay the regeneration process when the truck is sitting above combustible materials like grass or dry leaves. This innovative feature is great for both personal and commercial applications.

1982 - 1993
Development began in 1982 to transform the Ford Super Duty into the most capable heavy-duty pickup truck in America. The first diesel engine for this generation was the Indirect Injection (IDI) engine that delivered a modest 170 horsepower and 315 lb-ft of torque. Eventually, this evolved into the venerable 7.3L IDI diesel engine that was built from 1988-1993.
1994 - 2003
In 1994, the IDI was reborn into the 7.3L. Debuting with the Power Stroke name for the first time, the 7.3L featured a revised turbocharged and direct injection. This engine revolutionized the heavy-duty truck segment with production running through early 2003. For 9 years, the 7.3L earned praise and recognition from critics all across the industry.
2003 - 2007
In 2003, the 6.0L Power Stroke diesel made its debut with variable geometry turbocharger technology, exhaust gas recirculation system, and second-generation fuel injection system.
2007 - 2010
The arrival of the 6.4L diesel combined twin turbochargers with high-pressure common rail fuel injection, boosting both power and efficiency. This generation marked another stepping stone in the evolution of the Power Stroke diesel family.
